Having understood the changes occurring in the Maronite community's self-perception, it is important to now look at the relations of the Maronite world with the Arab-Islamic one. Why? Because Maronites are leading the way with a new nationalistic renewal in the Middle East, and it may, to a certain extent, influence the remaining Christian communities as well.
